A Prospect Hangs Up...Again

Slam Large.jpg

It doesn't happen that often, but on occasion a sales prospect will hang up on me. I try my best to keep that from happening, but some still hang up anyway. On this call you are listening to, this is the second call I made to this prospect. The first time I called we were disconnected by accident. I began my call with an apology (always a great ice-breaker), and then proceed to get my 10 seconds to ask a question. So far so good. But then the prospect takes a negative turn, and my call starts falling apart. To try to keep from crashing the call, I jump to my 'attention question' ASAP, and try and close for attention. Under pressure I did the best I could, but this prospect hung up anyway. It happens...
If there's one thing I've learned about prospecting is that you have to be prepared for the worst, and be surprised by the good that may come your way. Sometimes when prospects hang up it can send a strong negative message that can shake our confidence. Recovery is much like getting back on the bike after a fall. Try again, and keep pedaling forward so you don't fall again.
